Time:2026-03-12

According to data released on March 12 by ship-tracking agencies and the London Stock Exchange Group, several iron ore vessels originally scheduled to head for the Middle East have altered their routes and instead are heading to China, owing to recent heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Four instances of vessel re-routing have been confirmed so far. The “Cape Shangrila,” carrying 170,000 tons of iron ore fines, was originally set to unload its cargo in Bahrain on March 9 but has now diverted its course for China. Meanwhile, the “Ore Italia,” which is transporting 385,000 tons of iron ore fines, has shifted its destination from Oman’s Sohar Port to Dongjiakou Port on China’s eastern coast. The third vessel, the “Cape Jasmine,” carrying 170,000 tons of iron ore, is likewise departing Bahrain for Qingdao Port in eastern China. Another iron ore carrier, the “Mineral Zimbabwe,” which was originally bound for Sohar Port, is now also en route to Qingdao Port in China.
