Brazilian Mining Association: Mining Revenue Up 6% Year-on-Year in the First Quarter

According to data released Wednesday by the Brazilian Mining Association (Ibram), Brazil’s mining revenue in the first quarter of this year totaled 77.9 billion reais (approximately US$15.6 billion), up 6% year on year. Mining exports in the quarter amounted to 87.9 million tonnes, a slight increase of 0.9% compared with the same period last year, while export revenue rose by 21.5% to US$11.4 billion. Of this total, iron ore exports reached 84.8 million tonnes, up 0.8%, with export value climbing 2.4% to US$6.2 billion. Iron ore accounted for 48% of total mining revenue, or 37.5 billion reais, a 3% decline from the same period last year. Ibram’s member companies include Vale, Gerdau, ArcelorMittal, and Mosaic, among others.
